A patch is available that fixes the ident leak issue by releasing idents for commands without responses immediately after sending. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of a fix. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Bluetooth L2CAP implementation caused a tx ident leak for commands without a response. Specifically, identifiers allocated for commands that do not expect a response were never released, leading to exhaustion of the 1-255 ident range after repeated L2CAP_LE_CREDITS packets. This results in failure to allocate new idents and subsequent use of an invalid ident 0, causing remote stacks to drop packets and stall the channel. The issue has been fixed by releasing the ident immediately after sending L2CAP_LE_CREDITS and correcting ident release for connection response commands.
