An official patch is available that corrects the integer overflow by using a safer division method in the Minix filesystem code. Users should apply the updated Linux kernel versions that include this fix. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the vendor-provided patch.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Minix filesystem implementation allows an integer overflow in the bitmap block count calculation. This occurs when mounting a crafted Minix v3 image with inode or zone counts near the maximum unsigned int value, causing the kernel to accept a zero bitmap-block count and subsequently dereference invalid memory, leading to a kernel panic. The issue is fixed by using a safer division method that prevents overflow.
