A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue has been resolved in updated kernel releases. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions listed by their distribution to mitigate this vulnerability.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's AFS filesystem code caused improper handling of symlinks and mountpoints due to incorrect use of the AS_RELEASE_ALWAYS flag. This led to a pointer dereference issue when memory management attempted to release folios without a proper release_folio callback, potentially causing system instability or crashes. The issue has been resolved by removing the inappropriate setting of AS_RELEASE_ALWAYS for symlinks and mountpoints in AFS.
