AI-suggested

An official patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms that this vulnerability has been resolved. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions to mitigate the issue. No additional mitigations are specified or required beyond applying the patch.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's BPF subsystem involving incorrect indexing of the effective program array was fixed. The flaw caused replace_effective_prog() and purge_effective_progs() functions to overwrite or corrupt array slots incorrectly, potentially leading to use-after-free conditions. This was due to a mismatch between the linear hlist counting method and the actual array layout when BPF_F_PREORDER programs are present. The issue has been resolved by aligning the indexing logic with the compute_effective_progs() placement and identifying entries by their pointer rather than program and link values.
