A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to resolve this issue. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that this vulnerability has been fixed in updated kernel packages. Users should update their Linux kernel to the fixed versions as provided by their distribution.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS3 filesystem driver could cause an uninitialized logical cluster number (lcn) due to improper handling of virtual cluster numbers (VCN) during run lookups. This results in a kernel memory sanitizer (KMSAN) uninitialized value bug, potentially leading to incorrect kernel behavior. The issue has been fixed by reordering checks in the code to ensure lcn is properly initialized before use.
