AI-suggested
A patch is available that fixes this vulnerability by validating the shift value before performing the left shift operation in max3421_hub_control(). Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates for the affected linux-aws versions to remediate this issue. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the vendor-provided fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's usb host driver for max3421 was fixed. The flaw involved an out-of-bounds left shift operation in the max3421_hub_control() function when handling USB hub class requests, which could be triggered by a malicious userspace task issuing crafted USBDEVFS_CONTROL ioctls. This could cause arbitrary bit corruption of the port_status variable, bypassing internal state checks and confusing hub status. The issue was resolved by validating the shift value before performing the operation.
