VulnerabilityCVE-2026-7262cvecve-2026-7262cwe-476
Published: 05/10/2026 (05/10/2026, 04:00:09 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: PHP Group
Product: PHP

Description

In PHP versions 8.2.* before 8.2.31, 8.3.* before 8.3.31, 8.4.* before 8.4.21, and 8.5.* before 8.5.6, when a SOAP server has a typemap configured, the decoding process contains a mistake which checks the wrong variable in case of missing value element.  This leads to dereferences a NULL pointer, causing a segmentation fault. This allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to crash the PHP SOAP server process, resulting in denial of service.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-7262 is a NULL pointer dereference vulnerability in the PHP SOAP server's decoding process when a typemap is configured. The issue arises due to an incorrect variable check when a value element is missing, leading to dereferencing a NULL pointer and causing a segmentation fault. This allows a remote unauthenticated attacker to crash the PHP SOAP server process, causing denial of service. The vulnerability affects PHP versions 8.2.0 up to but not including 8.2.31, 8.3.0 up to but not including 8.3.31, 8.4.0 up to but not including 8.4.21, and 8.5.0 up to but not including 8.5.6. Red Hat has released security advisories and patches for this vulnerability in their PHP packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and related variants.

Potential Impact

A remote unauthenticated attacker can cause a denial of service by crashing the PHP SOAP server process through triggering a NULL pointer dereference during SOAP message decoding when a typemap is configured and a value element is missing. This results in a segmentation fault and service disruption. There is no indication of code execution or data disclosure from the provided information.

Mitigation Recommendations

Red Hat has released security updates that address this vulnerability in their PHP packages for Red Hat Enterprise Linux 10 and related variants. Applying these official patches will remediate the issue. Users should update to PHP versions 8.2.31 or later, 8.3.31 or later, 8.4.21 or later, or 8.5.6 or later as appropriate. Patch status is confirmed by Red Hat advisories linked in the vendor advisory URLs. No additional mitigation steps are specified.
