Technical Analysis

This vulnerability (CWE-400: Uncontrolled Resource Consumption) affects the OPC UA gateway in Advantech EKI-1242IEIMS devices running firmware version V1.06.01 and earlier. An attacker with adjacent network access can open multiple anonymous sessions, exhausting the server's session pool and causing a complete denial of service to all legitimate OPC UA clients connected to the device.

Potential Impact

The impact is a denial of service condition affecting all legitimate OPC UA clients connected to the vulnerable device. This disrupts normal operations by preventing legitimate sessions from being established or maintained due to resource exhaustion.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or patch link is provided in the available data. Until a patch is available, consider restricting network access to the OPC UA gateway to trusted entities only to reduce exposure.
