Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-73573 is a path traversal vulnerability in Zimbra Collaboration (ZCS) versions prior to 10.1.17. The issue arises from insufficient validation of the 'packages' parameter in the Briefcase document editing functionality. An authenticated attacker can exploit this by providing a crafted path traversal sequence (e.g., '../filedir'), potentially accessing sensitive files within the web application directory that should otherwise be restricted. The vulnerability is classified under CWE-24 (Path Traversal).

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows an authenticated attacker to read sensitive files within the web application directory that are normally inaccessible. The impact is limited to confidentiality (low impact) with no effect on integrity or availability. There are no known exploits in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or patch information is provided, users should monitor Zimbra's advisories for updates. In the meantime, restrict access to the affected functionality to trusted users and consider additional input validation controls if possible.
