Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: OpenZeppelin
Product: openzeppelin-confidential-contracts

Description

CVE-2026-73645 is an integer overflow vulnerability in OpenZeppelin Confidential Contracts versions prior to 0.3.1. The ERC7984 contract uses an euint64 value to track confidential total supply, and an overflowing _mint operation can fail silently. This leads to a mismatch where users can transfer the underlying token without receiving the corresponding confidential wrapped token, potentially causing loss of funds when wrapping tokens beyond approximately 18.4 trillion. The issue is fixed in version 0.3.1.

Technical Analysis

OpenZeppelin Confidential Contracts, an experimental library for the Zama fhEVM, had an integer overflow issue in the ERC7984 contract's confidential total supply tracking using an euint64 value. The internal _mint operation could silently fail on overflow, and the wrap and onTransferReceived functions did not handle this failure. As a result, users could transfer the underlying token without receiving the wrapped confidential token, causing potential loss of funds when wrapping requests exceed about 18.4 trillion tokens. This vulnerability is addressed in version 0.3.1.

Potential Impact

The silent failure of the _mint operation on integer overflow can cause users to lose funds by transferring underlying tokens without receiving the corresponding confidential wrapped tokens. This affects token wrapping operations beyond approximately 18.4 trillion tokens, potentially leading to financial loss for users interacting with the affected contracts.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to OpenZeppelin Confidential Contracts version 0.3.1 or later, where this integer overflow issue is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated or required.
