Published: 10/13/2026 (10/13/2026, 13:27:29 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Wazuh
Product: wazuh-agent

Description

Wazuh from 4.3.0 before 4.14.8 contains a remote code execution vulnerability where SCA policy trust is determined by file path rather than configuration source. Attackers controlling a manager can write unsigned policy files to var/incoming via the upgrade channel and reference them to execute command checks as root on agents.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-74036 is a remote code execution vulnerability in Wazuh wazuh-agent affecting versions >=4.3.0 and <4.14.8. The vulnerability occurs because the agent determines trust for SCA policies based on file path instead of verifying the configuration source. This allows an attacker who controls a Wazuh manager to write unsigned policy files to the var/incoming directory through the upgrade channel. These malicious policy files can then be referenced to execute commands with root privileges on the agents, leading to full system compromise.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an attacker with control over the Wazuh manager to execute arbitrary commands as root on the agent machines. This can lead to complete system compromise of the affected agents, including unauthorized access, data manipulation, or further lateral movement within the environment.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Wazuh version 4.14.8 and later. Users should upgrade wazuh-agent to version 4.14.8 or newer to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official patch.
