A patch is available that fixes this issue by adding the necessary flag check before calling ext4_write_inline_data_end(). Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that address this vulnerability. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of fixes.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's ext4 filesystem was fixed that could cause a kernel BUG when using the data=journal mount option. The issue arises because ext4_journalled_write_end() calls ext4_write_inline_data_end() without verifying if the EXT4_STATE_MAY_INLINE_DATA flag is still set on the inode. If a prior attempt to convert inline data to an extent failed and cleared this flag, but the EXT4_INODE_INLINE_DATA flag remains set, the kernel may attempt invalid writes, triggering a BUG_ON condition. This flaw has been patched in affected Linux kernel versions.
