AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to address this vulnerability. The fix consolidates and strengthens validation of virtqueue indices in the vhost/vdpa subsystem. Users should update to patched kernel versions as provided by their Linux distribution vendors. No additional mitigation actions are indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's vhost/vdpa subsystem allowed out-of-range virtqueue indices to reach driver-specific callbacks due to insufficient validation in mmap and fault paths. This could lead to out-of-bounds access, potentially causing invalid page frame number remaps and system crashes or denial of service. The issue has been fixed by consolidating and strengthening index validation in a unified helper function. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected. A patch is available to address this vulnerability.
