AI-suggested

A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to address this vulnerability. The vendor advisory from Ubuntu confirms that fixes have been released. Users should update their Linux kernel to a patched version as provided by their distribution. No additional mitigations are specified beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem fast symlink handling was resolved. The issue involved insufficient validation of fast symlink targets during inode reads, allowing malformed symlinks with incorrect size or missing NUL termination to cause out-of-bounds memory reads. This could lead to use-after-free conditions detected by kernel memory sanitizers. The flaw was fixed by adding validation to reject malformed fast symlink dinodes before they are processed. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected.
