A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions to correct the RNG buffer management logic. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue has been fixed. Users should update to the patched kernel versions listed in the advisory. No additional mitigation steps are indicated beyond applying the official fix.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's crypto subsystem related to the atmel-sha204a hardware random number generator (RNG) logic was fixed. The issue involved improper buffer management causing both blocking and non-blocking RNG paths to fail in providing valid entropy. This could result in reduced quality of random data output. The fix ensures that the buffer is read correctly starting from byte 1 to fetch the full 32 bytes of random data. The vulnerability affects specific versions of the linux-hwe-edge kernel.
