A patch is available that rejects VMAs with VM_IO or VM_PFNMAP flags when creating SVM ranges, preventing the infinite loop condition. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that address this issue. No additional mitigation steps are required beyond applying the patch.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's drm/gpusvm subsystem allowed creation of SVM ranges on VMAs marked with VM_IO or VM_PFNMAP, which are not backed by struct page objects as required. This could cause repeated failures in get_pages() and lead to an infinite loop in a driver's page-fault handler. The issue has been resolved by rejecting such VMAs when creating SVM ranges and returning an error code.
