A patch is available that adds bounds checking to the mmap fault offset in the ALSA usx2y driver to prevent mapping outside the allocated shared memory page. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel ALSA usx2y driver allowed unbounded mmap fault offsets, enabling a local attacker with access to the hwdep device node to gain read-write access to arbitrary kernel memory pages. This occurred because the fault handler did not properly bound the offset, allowing mapping outside the allocated shared memory page. The flaw was fixed by adding bounds checks to reject offsets outside the shared region.
