Technical Analysis

The Document Gallery WordPress plugin through version 5.1.1 contains an insufficient verification of data authenticity vulnerability (CWE-345). Specifically, one of its webhook endpoints does not verify the signature if no shared secret is configured, which is the default configuration. This flaw allows unauthenticated attackers to replace thumbnail images for documents by sending crafted requests to the webhook endpoint.

Potential Impact

An attacker can replace the thumbnail image displayed for any document on the affected site without authentication. This impacts the integrity of the content presentation but does not affect confidentiality or availability. There is no indication of further exploitation or active exploits in the wild.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix information is provided in the input data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. As a mitigation, site administrators should configure a shared secret for the webhook endpoint to enable signature verification and prevent unauthenticated modifications.
