Published: 06/06/2026 (06/06/2026, 02:28:34 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: thimpress
Product: LearnPress – Backup & Migration Tool

Description

The LearnPress – Backup & Migration Tool WordPress plugin up to version 4.1.4 is vulnerable to PHP Object Injection via deserialization of untrusted input. This vulnerability requires an attacker to have administrator-level privileges. Exploitation depends on the presence of a gadget chain (POP chain) in other installed plugins or themes. Without such a chain, the vulnerability has no impact. If a POP chain exists, it could allow actions such as arbitrary file deletion, sensitive data retrieval, or code execution.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-7566 is a deserialization of untrusted data vulnerability (CWE-502) in the LearnPress – Backup & Migration Tool WordPress plugin affecting all versions prior to 4.1.5. It allows authenticated users with administrator privileges to inject PHP objects via unsafe deserialization. However, no known POP chain exists within the plugin itself, so exploitation requires an additional plugin or theme with a suitable POP chain to achieve impact. Potential impacts include arbitrary file deletion, data disclosure, or remote code execution depending on the POP chain available on the target system.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability can lead to high impact outcomes such as confidentiality, integrity, and availability compromise if exploited in conjunction with a POP chain from other installed software. Without a POP chain, the vulnerability does not result in any impact. The attack requires administrator-level privileges, limiting the attack surface to trusted users or compromised admin accounts.

Mitigation Recommendations

No official patch or fix is currently confirmed for this vulnerability. Users should upgrade to version 4.1.5 or later once available to remediate this issue. Until then, restrict administrator access to trusted users only and review installed plugins and themes for potential POP chains that could be leveraged. Monitor vendor advisories for updates on patch availability.
