CVE-2026-75847: CWE-312 Cleartext Storage of Sensitive Information in ash-project ash_paper_trail
Description
CVE-2026-75847 is a medium severity vulnerability in ash-project's ash_paper_trail component that causes sensitive attribute values to be stored in cleartext within the generated version resource. This occurs because the changes map storing these values is marked as not sensitive, leading to exposure in default read actions, logs, and error messages. The issue affects versions from 0.1.1 up to but not including 0.7.0.

Technical Analysis
The vulnerability arises from ash_paper_trail storing tracked sensitive attribute values in a changes map that is publicly accessible and not marked as sensitive. The sensitivity flag is incorrectly derived from the ignore_attributes list, which defaults to empty, causing sensitive data to be exposed in plaintext through resource reads and logs. This affects versions >=0.1.1 and <0.7.0 of ash_paper_trail.
Potential Impact
An attacker with read access to the generated version resource can recover plaintext sensitive attribute values that should have been protected. This exposure could lead to unauthorized disclosure of sensitive information. There is no indication of privilege requirements beyond read access, and no known exploits in the wild have been reported.
Mitigation Recommendations
Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. No official fix or workaround is currently documented. Users should monitor vendor communications for patches or updates addressing this issue.
