Technical Analysis

In Splunk SOAR versions below 8.6.0, the /rest/health REST API endpoint does not perform proper authorization checks to verify that the caller has a role permitted to view system health and cluster state information. As a result, an authenticated user with no assigned role can retrieve system and cluster telemetry data that should be restricted to privileged users. This vulnerability is due to a missing authorization check on this endpoint.

Potential Impact

An authenticated user without any assigned role can access sensitive system and cluster telemetry information via the /rest/health endpoint. This could lead to unauthorized disclosure of system health and cluster state data, potentially aiding an attacker in reconnaissance activities. There is no indication of impact on integrity or availability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade to Splunk SOAR version 8.6.0 or later, where this authorization check issue has been addressed. Since the vulnerability is fixed in version 8.6.0, applying this official update fully mitigates the risk.
