Vendor/Project: Splunk
Product: Splunk SOAR

Description

CVE-2026-76363 is a SQL injection vulnerability in Splunk SOAR versions below 8.6.0. A user with the Automation Engineer role can execute arbitrary SQL commands on the Splunk SOAR database due to improper neutralization of user input in database queries. This allows unauthorized creation, reading, updating, or deletion of all data in the database.

Technical Analysis

In Splunk SOAR versions prior to 8.6.0, the playbook automation data APIs incorporate user-supplied input into SQL queries without proper neutralization of special elements. This flaw enables a user with the Automation Engineer role to run arbitrary SQL statements against the database, potentially modifying or accessing all stored data. The vulnerability arises from insufficient input sanitization in the database query construction process.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Automation Engineer privileges can execute arbitrary SQL queries on the Splunk SOAR database, leading to full compromise of data confidentiality and integrity. This includes the ability to create, read, update, or delete any data within the database. The vulnerability does not affect availability directly. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 6.5 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, high privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality and integrity.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict the Automation Engineer role to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity related to database queries. Follow Splunk's documentation on managing roles and permissions to limit exposure.
