Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Cisco
Product: Cisco Identity Services Engine Software

Description

A vulnerability in the certificate import functionality of the web-based management interface of Cisco ISE and Cisco ISE-PIC could allow an authenticated, remote attacker to read arbitrary files from the affected system. To exploit this vulnerability, the attacker must have valid administrative credentials. This vulnerability is due to insufficient validation of user-supplied input by the affected feature. An attacker could exploit this vulnerability by sending a crafted request to the web-based management interface of an affected device. A successful exploit could allow the attacker to read arbitrary files from the affected device, which could contain sensitive information.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability arises from insufficient validation of user-supplied input in the certificate import feature of Cisco ISE and Cisco ISE-PIC web management interfaces. An attacker with valid administrative credentials can send crafted requests to perform path traversal attacks, enabling them to read arbitrary files on the device. The vulnerability affects specific Cisco ISE software versions 3.1.0 through 3.5.0. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 4.9, reflecting network attack vector, low attack complexity, high privileges required, no user interaction, unchanged scope, and high confidentiality impact.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation allows an authenticated administrator to read arbitrary files on the affected device, potentially exposing sensitive information. There is no impact on integrity or availability. The vulnerability requires high privileges (administrative credentials) and does not involve user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

No patch or official fix information is provided in the available data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the Cisco vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict administrative access to trusted personnel only and monitor for suspicious activity related to certificate import functionality.
