Published: 08/19/2026 (08/19/2026, 19:26:46 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Leantime
Product: JSON-RPC API

Description

Leantime JSON-RPC API versions through 3.9.0 have a missing authorization vulnerability in the JSON-RPC dispatcher. This flaw allows authenticated users to invoke service-layer methods without proper permission checks, enabling actions outside their intended scope. For example, the editOwn method can be exploited to modify another user's account and reset their password, leading to account takeover. The root cause is the lack of centralized authorization enforcement in the dispatcher, distinct from other related CVEs.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-76647 describes a missing authorization vulnerability in the Leantime JSON-RPC API up to version 3.9.0. The JSON-RPC dispatcher in app/Domain/Api/Controllers/Jsonrpc.php does not enforce authorization before calling service-layer methods. This allows authenticated users to perform unauthorized actions, such as modifying other users' accounts via the editOwn method, which fails to verify that the user ID belongs to the caller. This vulnerability differs from CVE-2026-59712 and CVE-2026-15509 because it stems from missing centralized authorization checks rather than flaws in individual methods.

Potential Impact

An authenticated attacker can exploit this vulnerability to perform unauthorized actions on other users' accounts, including resetting passwords and taking over accounts. This compromises user account integrity and can lead to unauthorized access and control within the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the JSON-RPC API to trusted users only and monitor for suspicious activity. Implement additional authorization checks at the application layer if possible.
