Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: Hewlett Packard Enterprise (HPE)
Product: Instant ON

Description

A format string vulnerability in the API endpoint of HPE Networking Instant ON APs could allow an authenticated remote attacker with high privileges to cause memory corruption with a modified input. Successful exploitation could allow an attacker to provoke a denial-of-service condition or remote code execution in the affected system function.

Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves improper handling of format strings in the API endpoint of HPE Instant ON access points. An attacker with authenticated high-level privileges can supply a modified input that triggers memory corruption. This can result in denial-of-service conditions or potentially remote code execution within the affected system function. The issue affects versions from 0.0.0.0 up to 3.4.1.0 inclusive. No information about available patches or vendor advisories is provided.

Potential Impact

If exploited, this vulnerability can cause memory corruption leading to denial-of-service or remote code execution on the affected HPE Instant ON devices. This could disrupt network availability or allow an attacker to execute arbitrary code with high privileges on the device.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until an official fix is available, restrict access to the API endpoint to trusted administrators only and monitor for unusual activity. Avoid exposing the management interface to untrusted networks.
