If you cannot patch yet, users should exercise caution when accepting clipboard data from untrusted or unknown remote peers. Disabling clipboard redirection in RustDesk may mitigate the risk of exploitation.

Description

CVE-2026-76840 is a high-severity out-of-bounds write vulnerability in RustDesk's Windows clipboard redirection feature. The flaw occurs because the software copies a peer-supplied length into a fixed-size buffer without properly checking upper bounds, allowing a malicious remote peer to write data beyond the buffer's end during clipboard file content pasting. This vulnerability is similar to a previously fixed defect in FreeRDP and affects RustDesk versions up to 1.4.9.
