Published: 08/24/2026 (08/24/2026, 19:24:59 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: FasterXML
Product: com.fasterxml.jackson.core:jackson-databind

Description

A Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability exists in jackson-databind prior to versions 2.18.9, 2.21.5, 2.22.1, 3.1.5, and 3.2.1. The vulnerability arises from the deserialization process where attacker-controlled input triggers DNS resolution via java.net.InetAddress.getByName(), enabling potential internal-host enumeration. This issue is fixed in the specified versions.

Technical Analysis

The jackson-databind library's deserialization logic in the java.net.InetAddress branch of FromStringDeserializer.Std._deserialize() calls InetAddress.getByName() on attacker-controlled input before versions 2.18.9, 2.21.5, 2.22.1, 3.1.5, and 3.2.1. This causes eager DNS resolution during deserialization, leading to a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability classified as CWE-918. The vulnerability allows an attacker to induce the server to perform DNS lookups, potentially enabling DNS-based SSRF and internal network host enumeration. The issue is resolved in the listed fixed versions.

Potential Impact

An attacker can exploit this vulnerability to cause the server to perform DNS lookups on attacker-controlled hostnames during deserialization. This can lead to DNS-based SSRF attacks and internal host enumeration. The CVSS v3.1 score is 5.3 (medium severity), indicating limited confidentiality impact with no integrity or availability impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade jackson-databind to one of the fixed versions: 2.18.9, 2.21.5, 2.22.1, 3.1.5, or 3.2.1. Patch status is confirmed fixed in these versions. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory.
