Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-78415 is a CWE-79 cross-site scripting vulnerability affecting IBM Sterling Secure Proxy versions 6.2.0.0 through 6.2.1.2. The vulnerability arises from improper neutralization of user-supplied HTML markup during web page generation, enabling a remote attacker with authentication privileges to inject malicious HTML. This can lead to UI spoofing and phishing attacks within the application interface.

Potential Impact

An authenticated remote attacker can exploit this vulnerability to inject malicious HTML content, potentially deceiving users through UI spoofing or phishing attacks. The confidentiality and integrity of user interactions may be compromised, but there is no indication of availability impact. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 5.4 (medium severity), reflecting limited impact due to required authentication and lack of user interaction.

Mitigation Recommendations

No vendor advisory or patch information is provided in the input data. Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the IBM vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, restrict access to trusted users and monitor for suspicious activity related to UI spoofing or phishing attempts within the application.
