Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-78807 is a vulnerability affecting all versions of wpa_supplicant before 2.12. The flaw exists because the driver-based PMKSA selection path in the wpa.c file lacks proper validation, enabling a local attacker to bypass the intended network context and AKMP matching checks for PMKSA caching. This could potentially allow unauthorized use of cached PMKSA entries.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows a local attacker to bypass security checks related to PMKSA caching, which may lead to unauthorized network access or session hijacking within the affected system. However, no known exploits are reported in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in wpa_supplicant version 2.12. Users should upgrade to version 2.12 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No additional mitigation steps are indicated.
