Vendor/Project: Dell
Product: Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 - Application

Description

Dell Secure Connect Gateway (SCG) 5.0 Appliance and Application versions prior to 5.36.00.16 and 5.36.00.00 respectively contain a critical vulnerability allowing execution with unnecessary privileges. An unauthenticated attacker with local access and SSH to the SCG host can exploit the exposed Docker socket to gain root-level access without a password. Additionally, compromise of a service within the orchestrator container can lead to container escape and host-level control. Dell recommends upgrading to fixed versions as soon as possible.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-80238 is a critical vulnerability in Dell Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 Appliance (prior to 5.36.00.16) and Application (prior to 5.36.00.00) that allows an unauthenticated local attacker with SSH access to escalate privileges to root by exploiting an exposed Docker socket. This vulnerability enables bypass of protection mechanisms and container escape, granting host-level control. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 9.3, reflecting high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. No official patch or remediation level is explicitly stated in the available data, but Dell recommends upgrading at the earliest opportunity.

Potential Impact

Exploitation of this vulnerability allows an attacker with low privileges and local SSH access to escalate to root privileges on the host system without authentication. This leads to complete compromise of the host, including bypassing protection mechanisms and escaping container boundaries, resulting in full control over the affected system.

Mitigation Recommendations

Dell recommends customers upgrade to fixed versions of Secure Connect Gateway 5.0 Appliance and Application at the earliest opportunity. Patch status is not yet confirmed in the provided data; users should consult Dell's official advisory for current remediation guidance.
