A patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vendor advisory confirms that this issue has been resolved in updated kernel releases. Users should update to the fixed kernel versions to prevent kernel address leakage via the perf subsystem.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's perf subsystem on AMD processors supporting X86_FEATURE_AMD_LBR_V2 allowed kernel addresses to be leaked to user space when PERF_SAMPLE_BRANCH_USER was requested. This occurred because the hardware filter only checked the privilege level of the branch target, not the branch-from address, exposing kernel memory addresses. The issue has been fixed by extending software filtering to drop branch records originating from the kernel in this context. Multiple specific Linux kernel versions are affected. A patch is available to address this issue.
