AI-suggested

An official patch is available and should be applied to affected Linux kernel versions. The vulnerability has been fixed by correcting the decrement logic and removing the WARN_ON_ONCE macro to handle the underflow safely. Users should update to patched kernel versions as provided by their Linux distribution vendors. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the official fix.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel netfilter flowtable subsystem could cause an out-of-bounds stack read due to an underflow of the num_encaps counter when handling bridge VLAN untag operations. This occurs when the num_encaps value, an unsigned 8-bit integer, is decremented below zero and wraps to 255, leading to excessive array indexing. The issue arises only on malformed bridge path stacks. A fix has been released to correct this behavior.
