A patch is available that fixes this issue by replacing the kernel panic trigger with a warning and proper error return. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this fix. The vendor advisory confirms the availability of a patch. No additional mitigation is required beyond applying the update.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's OCFS2 filesystem code could cause a kernel crash (BUG) during mount teardown when an invalid journal dinode is encountered. This occurs because a recent code change replaced a safe error return with a kernel panic trigger (BUG_ON). The issue has been fixed by reverting the panic to a warning and returning an error code, allowing the mount to fail cleanly without crashing the kernel.
