What to do

AI-suggested

A fix has been implemented that validates the look-ahead attribute-list entry before dereferencing it, preventing out-of-bounds reads. Users should apply the official Linux kernel updates that include this patch to resolve the vulnerability. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying the kernel update provided by the Linux distribution or vendor.

Description

A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's NTFS driver (ntfs_external_attr_find function) allows an out-of-bounds read due to improper bounds checking of a look-ahead attribute-list entry. This occurs when reading a crafted on-disk $ATTRIBUTE_LIST with a last entry positioned just before the buffer end, leading to a slab out-of-bounds read. The flaw has been resolved by adding validation of the look-ahead entry before dereferencing its fields.
