AI-suggested
A patch is available and should be applied to affected linux-hwe-edge kernel versions to add the security_locked_down() check to pci_mmap_resource() on Alpha architecture. The vendor advisory (Ubuntu USN-8878-1) confirms the fix. Systems running affected versions should update to the patched kernel releases. No additional mitigation is indicated by the vendor.
Description
A vulnerability in the Linux kernel's Alpha architecture PCI subsystem was resolved by adding a security lockdown check to pci_mmap_resource(). Previously, Alpha's pci_mmap_resource() did not verify if the kernel lockdown mode restricted PCI BAR memory mapping, potentially allowing unauthorized userspace access. This check was already present in the generic PCI code to prevent DMA attacks when the kernel is locked down. The issue affects specific linux-hwe-edge kernel versions and has been patched.
