Vendor/Project: Mozilla
Product: Firefox

Description

Memory safety bugs present in Firefox ESR 115.35.1, Firefox ESR 140.10.1 and Firefox 150.0.1. Some of these bugs showed evidence of memory corruption and we presume that with enough effort some of these could have been exploited to run arbitrary code. Technical Analysis

This vulnerability involves multiple memory safety bugs in Mozilla Firefox ESR 115.35.1, Firefox ESR 140.10.1, and Firefox 150.0.1. Evidence of memory corruption was observed, and it is presumed that with sufficient effort, these bugs could be exploited to achieve arbitrary code execution. Mozilla released fixes for these issues in Firefox 150.0.2, Firefox ESR 115.35.2, and Firefox ESR 140.10.2. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 8.1, indicating a high severity with network attack vector, high attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The vendor advisories confirm the fixes and provide detailed references to the bugs and reporters.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation of these memory safety bugs could lead to arbitrary code execution, compromising the confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected systems running vulnerable Firefox versions. The vulnerabilities are rated high severity with a CVSS score of 8.1. There are no known exploits in the wild at the time of publication.

Mitigation Recommendations

Mozilla has released official fixes for these vulnerabilities in Firefox 150.0.2, Firefox ESR 115.35.2, and Firefox ESR 140.10.2.
