Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-81340 is an authorization bypass vulnerability in the MasterStudy LMS WordPress Plugin versions prior to 3.7.50. The plugin fails to enforce per-object ownership or capability checks when processing order updates through its REST API. As a result, users assigned the Instructor role can manipulate orders they do not own, enabling unauthorized actions like free course enrollment and tampering with other users' paid orders.

Potential Impact

Users with the Instructor role can exploit this vulnerability to modify any order on the site, potentially granting themselves or others free access to paid courses, revoking legitimate enrollments, and altering order-related data. This compromises the integrity of course enrollment and payment records within the LMS.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch to version 3.7.50 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. Since no official patch links are provided, users should monitor the vendor's site or trusted plugin repositories for the update. Until patched, restrict the Instructor role permissions or disable the REST API endpoints related to order updates if feasible.
