Published: 08/28/2026 (08/28/2026, 20:28:02 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: MongoDB
Product: BI Connector ODBC Driver

Description

CVE-2026-81533 is a medium severity stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability in the MongoDB BI Connector ODBC Driver. It occurs when a SQL statement includes a LIMIT clause followed by an unusually long sequence of digits, and the driver's optional prefetch setting is enabled. The vulnerability arises because the driver copies this digit sequence into a fixed-size buffer without validating its length. This can lead to application process termination or memory corruption if a user can control the numeric portion of the LIMIT clause.

Technical Analysis

The MongoDB BI Connector ODBC Driver contains a stack-based buffer overflow vulnerability (CWE-121) triggered by SQL statements with a LIMIT clause followed by a long digit sequence. This issue manifests only when the driver's optional prefetch setting is enabled. The driver copies the digit sequence into a fixed-size internal buffer without length checks, potentially causing memory corruption or process crashes. Exploitation requires the ability to influence the numeric value in the LIMIT clause. There is no vendor advisory or patch information available at this time.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can cause the hosting application process to terminate unexpectedly or corrupt adjacent memory, potentially leading to denial of service or unpredictable behavior in the affected application. No evidence of active exploitation in the wild is reported.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Until a fix is available, consider disabling the driver's optional prefetch setting if feasible to mitigate the vulnerability.
