Product: Elementor Website Builder

Description

The Elementor Website Builder WordPress plugin before 4.3.5 does not sanitize the text content of SVG files, checking only their elements and attributes, allowing users with the Contributor role and above to store a payload which breaks out when the SVG is rendered inline in a page and executes in the browser of any user viewing it. Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-81813 is a CWE-79 Cross-Site Scripting vulnerability in the Elementor Website Builder WordPress plugin prior to version 4.3.5. The plugin fails to sanitize the text content of SVG files, only validating elements and attributes. This allows users with Contributor role or above to store a malicious payload within an SVG file. When the SVG is rendered inline on a page, the payload executes in the browser of any user viewing it, specifically targeting Chromium-based browsers. Firefox is not affected by this issue.

Potential Impact

An attacker with Contributor or higher privileges can inject malicious scripts via SVG files that execute in the browsers of users viewing the affected pages. This can lead to script execution in Chromium-based browsers, potentially enabling session hijacking, defacement, or other client-side attacks. Firefox users are not impacted by this vulnerability.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade the Elementor Website Builder plugin to version 4.3.5 or later, where this vulnerability is fixed. Users should apply this official fix to prevent exploitation. No other mitigation steps are indicated by the vendor advisory.
