Upgrade Invoice Ninja to version 5.13.28 or later, where this authorization bypass vulnerability is fixed. The vendor has released an official fix addressing the broken access control and the predictable Hashid enumeration issue. No additional mitigation steps are required once the system is updated.
Description
Invoice Ninja versions prior to 5.13.28 contain an authorization bypass vulnerability that allows authenticated vendor-portal contacts to access documents belonging to other vendors and clients. The flaw arises because authorization checks validate only the company_id scope rather than verifying vendor ownership. Attackers can exploit this by requesting document downloads using predictable sequential Hashids due to a default empty HASH_SALT, enabling unauthorized access to sensitive documents such as invoices, contracts, payment receipts, and expense attachments.
