Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: sveltejs
Product: kit

Description

SvelteKit versions 2.49.0 through 2.52.1 with experimental remote functions and form enabled have a CPU exhaustion vulnerability in form deserialization. An attacker can send malformed form data to cause the server to become unresponsive, resulting in denial of service. This issue is fixed in version 2.52.2.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-82261 is a vulnerability in SvelteKit (@sveltejs/kit) versions >=2.49.0 and <=2.52.1 that enables an attacker to cause uncontrolled CPU resource consumption during form deserialization when experimental remote functions and form features are enabled. Malformed form data can trigger this CPU exhaustion, leading to a denial of service by making the server unresponsive. The vulnerability is addressed in version 2.52.2.

Potential Impact

The vulnerability allows unauthenticated attackers to send specially crafted form data that exhausts CPU resources on the server, causing denial of service. This can disrupt availability of applications using affected SvelteKit versions with the vulnerable configuration.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade SvelteKit to version 2.52.2 or later to apply the official fix for this CPU exhaustion vulnerability. Until upgraded, consider disabling experimental remote functions and form features if feasible to reduce exposure.
