Vendor/Project: Brocade
Product: SANnav

Description

Insufficient input sanitization of shell metacharacters in the Brocade SANnav CLI scripting component permits authenticated users to break out of restricted execution contexts on managed switches. An attacker with command execution permissions can leverage this flaw to run unauthorized shell commands across target fabric switches, bypassing command allow-lists and obtaining full administrative switch access. This vulnerability affects all Brocade SANnav versions before 3.0.1a.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability arises from insufficient input sanitization of shell metacharacters in the Brocade SANnav CLI scripting component. Authenticated users with command execution privileges can exploit this to break out of restricted execution contexts on managed switches, enabling unauthorized shell command execution and full administrative access to the switches. This affects all versions of Brocade SANnav before 3.0.1a.

Potential Impact

An attacker with command execution permissions can leverage this vulnerability to bypass command allow-lists and execute arbitrary shell commands on managed fabric switches, potentially gaining full administrative control over those switches. This could lead to unauthorized configuration changes, disruption of network operations, or further compromise of the network infrastructure.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Brocade SANnav version 3.0.1a. Users should upgrade to version 3.0.1a or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided, so applying the official patch is the recommended action.
