Technical Analysis

Adobe ColdFusion 2025 contains an Improper Authentication vulnerability (CWE-287) identified as CVE-2026-83961. This flaw allows an attacker to bypass authentication controls, resulting in privilege escalation with limited read and write capabilities. The affected component is by default restricted to an administrative network zone, reducing exposure. Exploitation requires no user interaction and changes the security scope, affecting confidentiality, integrity, and availability. The CVSS v3.1 base score is 7.1, reflecting high severity with attack vector as adjacent network, low attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and scope changed.

Potential Impact

Successful exploitation can lead to privilege escalation, granting an attacker limited read and write access within the administrative network zone. This impacts confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected system components. However, the vulnerability is limited to an administrative network zone by default, which may reduce the attack surface.

Mitigation Recommendations

Patch status is not yet confirmed — check the vendor advisory for current remediation guidance. Since no official fix or temporary mitigation is provided in the available data, users should monitor Adobe's advisories for updates. Network segmentation restricting access to the administrative zone may help reduce exposure until a patch is available.
