Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-84220 is an injection vulnerability (CWE-74) in the Kirki WordPress plugin versions prior to 6.3.2. The plugin does not prevent execution of shortcodes embedded in comments and displays comments regardless of moderation status. This flaw enables unauthenticated users to run shortcodes registered on the site and access private custom fields of the page being viewed.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can execute shortcodes via comments and read private custom fields on the affected WordPress site. This leads to partial confidentiality and integrity impact but does not affect availability. The CVSS 3.1 base score is 4.8 (medium severity), reflecting network attack vector, high attack complexity, no privileges required, no user interaction, and limited confidentiality and integrity impact.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade Kirki to version 6.3.2 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation details are provided. Patch status is not explicitly confirmed in the input data, but the affected versions are prior to 6.3.2, indicating that 6.3.2 contains the fix.
