Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Kirki

Description

The Kirki WordPress plugin before 6.3.2 does not validate the host of a URL it is given before fetching it, allowing users with editor-level access and above to make the site issue requests to internal services that are not otherwise reachable, and to tell which of those are live from the response.

Technical Analysis

The Kirki WordPress plugin before version 6.3.2 does not properly validate the host component of URLs before fetching them. This lack of validation enables users with editor-level permissions or higher to perform SSRF attacks by making the site issue HTTP requests to internal network services that are otherwise unreachable. The attacker can infer the availability of these internal services from the responses, potentially aiding further attacks or reconnaissance.

Potential Impact

An attacker with editor-level or higher privileges can exploit this vulnerability to make the affected site send requests to internal services that are not normally accessible externally. This can reveal information about the internal network and service availability. The vulnerability does not directly impact confidentiality or availability but can aid in further attacks by providing internal network information.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Kirki version 6.3.2. Users should upgrade to version 6.3.2 or later to remediate this vulnerability. No other mitigation guidance is provided or necessary if the plugin is updated.
