Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: 0xJacky
Product: nginx-ui

Description

CVE-2026-84321 is a medium severity vulnerability in 0xJacky's nginx-ui prior to version 2.4.1. It involves insufficient session expiration where revoked short tokens can remain valid in the cache if the associated account is re-enabled before cache expiry. This allows the short token to authenticate again to HTTP or WebSocket routes. The issue is fixed in version 2.4.1.

Technical Analysis

The vulnerability in nginx-ui versions before 2.4.1 arises because GenerateShortToken creates short-token records without a corresponding long Token value, but DeleteUserTokens only invalidates cached tokens if the long Token field is nonempty. Consequently, revoked short tokens can persist in the cache and be reused if the user account is re-enabled before the cache entry expires. This allows unauthorized re-authentication via short-token authentication mechanisms. The flaw is addressed in version 2.4.1 where token invalidation properly handles these cases.

Potential Impact

An attacker or user with a revoked short token could regain access to HTTP or WebSocket routes protected by short-token authentication if the associated account is re-enabled before the cached token expires. This leads to potential unauthorized access and session hijacking risks. The confidentiality and integrity of the affected system are impacted, but availability is not affected.

Mitigation Recommendations

Upgrade nginx-ui to version 2.4.1 or later where this vulnerability is fixed. No other mitigation is indicated by the vendor advisory. Patch status is confirmed fixed in 2.4.1.
