A fix for this vulnerability is scheduled for Network UPS Tools version 2.8.6. Until then, users should restrict physical and supply-chain access to USB ports to prevent malicious devices from connecting. Monitor vendor advisories for the official patch release and apply it promptly once available.
Description
CVE-2026-85068 is a low-severity vulnerability in Network UPS Tools (nut) versions 2.4.2 through 2.8.5. It involves the use of an uninitialized variable in the ippon_command function within the blazer_usb driver. A malicious USB device with specific vendor and product IDs can cause the software to disclose uninitialized stack memory during normal polling. The exposure is limited to read-only data, requires physical or supply-chain access, and does not affect integrity or availability. A fix is planned for version 2.8.6.
