Description

CVE-2026-85272 is a path traversal vulnerability in the Open edX Platform's openedx-platform component affecting versions from Aspen.1 up to but not including Ulmo and Verawood.1. The vulnerability arises from improper validation of extracted archive paths in the extract_archive.py module, allowing crafted .tar.gz archives to escape intended directories during course import. This can lead to limited cross-tenant file corruption but does not enable arbitrary file writes, reads, or code execution. The issue is fixed in Ulmo and Verawood.1 versions.
