Published: 10/21/2026 (10/21/2026, 08:39:00 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Product: Jane Menu

Description

The Jane Menu WordPress plugin before 1.5.1 does not have any capability or nonce checks on one of its form handlers, which is reachable by unauthenticated users, allowing them to bind any published page to a remote document of their choosing. The plugin then fetches that document and outputs its head and body into the page without escaping, so an unauthenticated attacker can run arbitrary JavaScript in the browser of any visitor to that page, including an administrator.

Technical Analysis

The Jane Menu WordPress plugin versions prior to 1.5.1 contain a cross-site scripting vulnerability (CWE-79) due to missing capability and nonce checks on a form handler reachable by unauthenticated users. Attackers can bind a published page to a remote document of their choice. The plugin fetches this document and injects its head and body content into the page without escaping, allowing execution of arbitrary JavaScript in the context of any visitor's browser, including administrators. This vulnerability has a CVSS 3.1 score of 8.8, indicating high impact on confidentiality, integrity, and availability.

Potential Impact

An unauthenticated attacker can execute arbitrary JavaScript in the browsers of any visitors to the affected pages, including administrators. This can lead to theft of credentials, session hijacking, or other malicious actions performed with the privileges of the victim user. The vulnerability affects confidentiality, integrity, and availability of the affected WordPress site.

Mitigation Recommendations

A fix is available in Jane Menu version 1.5.1. Users should upgrade to version 1.5.1 or later to remediate this vulnerability. Until upgraded, restrict access to the affected form handler if possible or implement additional security controls to prevent unauthorized use.
