Published: 09/08/2026 (09/08/2026, 17:38:11 UTC)
Source: CVE Database V5
Vendor/Project: n8n-io
Product: n8n

Description

A Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability exists in n8n workflow automation platform prior to versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2. The vulnerability arises from the Instance AI credential setup flow accepting a credential test or verification URL without verifying that it matches the workflow node's origin. This allows attacker-controlled content to influence the URL, potentially causing authenticated requests, redirects, or probes to unintended origins. The issue affects specific source code components related to origin derivation and is fixed in versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2.

Technical Analysis

CVE-2026-86074 is a Server-Side Request Forgery (SSRF) vulnerability in the n8n open source workflow automation platform. The flaw exists in the Instance AI credential setup flow, where the system accepts a credential test or verification URL without validating that it matches the workflow node's origin. This improper validation allows an attacker to manipulate the URL via attacker-controlled fetched content after a user injects it into the setup flow. As a result, authenticated requests, redirects, or probes can be made to other origins, potentially leading to unauthorized interactions with internal or external services. The vulnerability affects the packages/@n8n/instance-ai/src/tools/workflows/credential-utils.ts file and the extractServiceOrigin function. The issue is resolved in n8n versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2.

Potential Impact

An attacker can influence URLs used in the credential setup flow to cause the server to make authenticated requests, redirects, or probes to unintended origins. This could lead to unauthorized access or information disclosure depending on the target of these requests. However, exploitation requires user interaction and the vulnerability has a medium severity rating with no known exploits in the wild at this time.

Mitigation Recommendations

This vulnerability is fixed in n8n versions 2.37.7 and 2.38.2. Users should upgrade to one of these versions or later to remediate the issue. Since this is not a cloud service, remediation depends on applying the official patch. No additional vendor advisory content is provided, so check the vendor's official channels for the latest updates and guidance.
